# Safety

Nothing on this page makes you safe. It says what is here, what each part actually does, and where it stops. The rest of it is what people who have been doing this a long time do before they meet somebody new. You still decide who to trust, and that decision stays yours.

## Before you meet somebody the first time

These are the things people who have done this for years do without thinking. Talk first, for long enough that you have a sense of them. Meet somewhere public the first time, even when what you are planning is not public. Tell one person you trust where you are going and when you expect to be back, and agree that you will message them at a set time. Arrive and leave under your own power, so that nobody else decides when you go home. If it feels wrong before you get there, do not go. You never owe anybody the meeting.

## Agreeing what happens, and stopping it

Agree beforehand what is going to happen and what is not, while you are both calm and dressed. Say your hard limits out loud rather than hoping they are obvious. Agree a word that stops everything at once, and pick one that could not come up by accident. Anybody may use it, not only the person following, and using it ends the scene rather than starting an argument about it. Agree how you will each check afterwards that the other one is alright. None of this is written down on this site. It is between the two of you.

## When money is part of it

Some patterns are worth knowing. Somebody who wants paying in full before you have met, who wants to move the conversation off this site straight away, who will not answer a plain question about what you are paying for, or who leans on you to decide quickly, is behaving the way people behave when the money is the point. That proves nothing on its own, and plenty of honest people ask for a deposit. It is a reason to slow down. Remember that we never see the payment, so we cannot get it back for you.

## What a badge checks

Each badge names one fact that we checked. It says nothing else. A badge is never us saying that somebody is safe, honest or good company. A person with every badge can still be somebody you would rather not meet. A person with no badges may be fine.

## Blocking, reporting and appealing

You can block somebody and they are never told that you did. Blocking ends the connection in both directions, and it is fixed to the account, so a new name on the same account does not get around it. Muting is a smaller thing and only changes what you see. You can report somebody, and a person here reads the report rather than a machine. If we then decide something about your own account, you can appeal it, and the answer tells you what was decided and why.

## Pictures cannot be locked

We can make a picture hard to save and hard to find again. Links die quickly. No web address for it keeps working. A watermark shows who the picture was shown to. We cannot stop a screenshot, on any device. So assume a copy of anything you post exists somewhere you cannot reach.

## If somebody could see your screen

Close the tab, or press the key that shuts the window. Your browser already has this and it is always in the same place. This site draws no Leave button of its own, so do not go looking for one. What none of it does is take the page out of your browser's history, and we cannot reach a history we do not own. A private window keeps it out in the first place, so it has to be open before you start reading. Afterwards is too late.

## When it is bigger than a website

If you are in danger right now, put this page down and call for help where you are. Emergency numbers are different in every country, and we will not print one that is wrong where you are standing, so use the number your own phone already knows. There are also organisations in most countries for people who have been hurt by a partner or at work, and they will talk to you whatever you were doing when it happened.
