# What a Key is

Keys are the unit we count inside KinkEU. Most things here cost nothing. A few things cost Keys, and every one of those prices is zero today.

## Why there is a unit at all

Some things on a platform have to cost something, or the loudest account wins everything. Keys let that happen without money coming into the site. We never take a payment, so we never hold a balance that belongs to you in any currency, and there is nothing here to be refunded, charged back or frozen. A Key is a count we keep, and the whole point of it is that it is not money.

## One kind of point, not five

There is one unit for everything, so you have one number to watch instead of a handful of separate balances that each work in one place. You can see it at any time in the app. Nothing about it is hidden, there is no second currency you find out about later, and there is no level to reach or rank to hold.

## How you earn them

You earn Keys by using KinkEU. There is a limit on how many you can earn each week, so nobody collects a large balance in a single day and nobody can farm them. The app shows what you earned and when you earned it, so the number never changes without a line explaining it. Earning is not a job and it is not income: it is a count that lets you use the few things here that cost anything.

## What a Key can never do

Three limits are fixed and are not going to move. A Key can never pay a provider, because providers are paid by you directly and we stay out of it. A Key can never leave the platform as something of value, so it cannot be sold, sent or given away. And a Key can never buy a place in a search result, so nobody outranks anybody here by spending. Those three are what make it safe to hold a balance and ignore it.

## Your history, and nothing removed from it

Every time you earn or spend a Key, a line is written. You can open your history and read each line with its date and the balance you had afterwards, so you can always tell where a number came from. Nothing is ever taken out of that list. A correction is written as a new line saying what was corrected, which means the record can be added to but never quietly edited.

## It cannot be turned into cash

You cannot cash Keys out, move them to a bank, or hand them to another person. They work inside KinkEU and nowhere else. If your account closes, they close with it, because they were never a thing you owned in the sense money is owned.

## Every price is zero today

Right now nothing costs a Key. Every price is set to zero, and the system runs anyway so that switching a price on later is a number changing rather than something new being built. If a price ever stops being zero you will see it before you agree to it, never after, and anything that helps a person stay safe stays free whatever happens to the rest.
