Version 2026-10-19
How long things are kept, and why some of them cannot be erased.
Everything has a fixed rule
Every kind of record on KinkEU has a retention rule, and the rule decides how long it is kept, rather than somebody deciding case by case.
The kinds
- what you publish is kept as long as your account is, and goes when it goes
- what the platform records because something happened, such as a sign in or an enrolled device, is kept for a limited period and then removed
- security records are kept longer than ordinary ones, because working out what happened in an attack means being able to look back past it
- some records are never edited or erased. A correction is a new record that refers to the old one
What is never erased, and why
Consent records, acceptances of legal documents, the record of an account changing state, and the records of Keys: what was bought, spent, paid between members and withdrawn.
These exist so that nobody can quietly change what was agreed, or what was paid, and when. A record that could be deleted on request would be worth nothing as evidence, and records of payments are also kept because the law requires them to be kept. They are kept only for those purposes and are never used to build a profile of you.
Where you are
Location here means a coarse idea of the country a request came from. It is used to apply the rules of that place and for security. It is not precise, and no history of your movements is built from it.
A legal hold
Where there is a legal obligation to preserve something, it is preserved for as long as that obligation lasts, even if it would otherwise have been removed. Where we are permitted to tell you that this has happened, we do.
Closing your account
The account deletion document says exactly what goes and what stays.
Changes
This document carries a version. When it changes the version changes, and a translation is published only when it is complete.
